Gotham is in disrepair, I’ve been absent, AND SO IT’S TIME TO SUIT UP AS BLACKMAN AND SOLVE A RIDDLER… no… that wasn’t clever? .. ok.

Like I explain in the video, my file has disappeared for Season 1, so we will come back and stream it pending Telltale’s response.

Jesus said to love one another and that we should be servants to each other, so I would ask that you all do that in the comment section. That means more to me than anything. Thank you.

Batman: The Enemy Within (The Movie)

It’s been over 2 years now since I released my movie edit of Batman: The Telltale Series (season 1). Here is my edit of Season 2: The Enemy Within. All 5 episodes edited into one movie.

Just after I released the first season’s movie, I played the first episode of season 2, and I was really excited by all of the things Telltale was doing with season 2. They significantly improved their engine, making the game run much smoother on all platforms. They made the graphics look much nicer and the animation better as well, and they came up with some really cool story ideas for The Enemy Within. While I was excited to make this movie, there were other big games I and my viewers wanted me to focus on first. 7 movies later and thank you all for waiting, because it’s finally here!

This one was a big one for sure, for several reasons. If you’re not familiar of what all I do with these movies, what I’m trying to do is make an experience that is as close to watching a real movie with this story as possible. I’m trying to make an experience where you can enjoy the movie whether you’ve played the game or not, or even if you don’t play video games at all. One big part of that process is removing what I refer to as “video game indicators”, or basically, anything that makes it super obvious that you’re watching a game instead of a movie. However, what I won’t do is just cut out all the gameplay. I know some youtubers just make a compilation of cutscenes, but that’s not a movie, because you’re missing out on huge chunks of the story.

So I need to make an experience that removes as many of the on screen reminders that you’re watching a game as possible, but do it while retaining as much gameplay as is necessary to avoid plot holes and maintain a good story pace. With a game like this one, the core gameplay consists of two things: Dialogue choices, and on screen button prompts. Thankfully, dialogue choices is an easy one. They mostly sit at the bottom of the screen, so I can simply crop them away. Because I’m going to be cropping the bottom of the screen a LOT, I decide to use the cinematic “scope” aspect ratio of 2.40:1. This however meant that I needed to make sure every single shot in the movie was framed properly, as if I was filming natively in 2.40:1, so I had to shift the frame up and down, sometimes sliding it around inside of singular shots. This movie had over 7000 shots, so as you can tell, this is time consuming, but I think it results in a particularly nice looking cinematic framing, which helps with the “movie” feel.

The button prompts are obviously another complex thing to fix. For some, you can obviously just cut around them. The game slows down time during these QTE sequences, so you can often cut out the beginning and end of these prompts without affecting the pacing of the action, and actually even improving upon it. However, a lot of the time, either parts of the button prompt or the whole thing must remain if you don’t want to ruin the shot. So I had to do a lot of VFX work to remove these. I have a couple of videos explaining some of the ways I do this, but it’s safe to say, it’s time consuming. There are over 200 VFX shots in this movie.

Telltale Games may no longer be around, but you can still purchase this game, and I would recommend it. Despite it being a more movie like game, there is still only so much of the experience I can give you in a movie like this. This is a decision based game, and certain scenes and character motivations can change based on different decisions, including a significantly different final chapter if you make different decisions than I did.

Thank you for watching and making all this work worth it. If you like what I do and want to see more, make sure you subscribe and turn on notifications so you know when I premiere a new movie. If you check the community tab on my channel, I also occasionally post information there as well, including polls to decide which movies I make next. For more dedicated supporters, I also offer full quality downloads of my movies and more. See the sidebar for more information on that.
